Warmer Homes West Midlands is a project delivered by the energy advice charity ‘Act on Energy’, who are actively seeking to address fuel poverty whilst working towards a zero-carbon community. They offer free, impartial, and personalised advice and guidance within the West Midlands Combined Authority area (Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall, and Wolverhampton). The project delivers telephone advice through their team of qualified energy advisors and has a team of community outreach officers, who are rooted within the communities.Their team can support you on matters such as: energy bills and debts, billing issues with suppliers, energy efficiency advice and measures, money and debt advice, accessing grants and schemes, and advice on household behaviours that can save money. To access their service, you can call their freephone helpline on 0808 196 8298 or email them at warmerhomeswm@actonenergy.org.ukThey also take professional referrals by email or via their website: https://tinyurl.com/4tveyfumThe community outreach officers are ‘out and about’ in the community, with regular ‘drop-ins’ at Refresh and South Street/ Brick House foodbanks. They can attend local events, talk to clients at a local centre, and if required, continue that support with an arranged phone call or home visit. You can arrange a ‘drop-in session’ at your event or centre by emailing the team. The Warmer Homes West Midlands project also has volunteering opportunities and is searching for local “energy champions”. If you are already actively involved in your local area and would like to support your community to combat fuel poverty, you could volunteer as a local energy champion! As a volunteer, you will be given lots of guidance on how to help your community, you will receive free training on ‘Energy Awareness’ and have the opportunity of pursing a career in the energy sector.
