AGE UK Birmingham Stepping Out Foot Care Service
Stepping Out helps to keep people mobile and maintain their independence by providing a basic foot care service. Age UK Birmingham provide this service in partnership with Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS Trust, through trained staff.
The service that was previously run as part of Age UK Dudley has been a welcome addition to the Dudley area since it was reintroduced last year.
Mrs Freeman, 88, a previous service user said: “I love having my independence and felt that during the lockdowns it was becoming more difficult for me to get out. The previous service had closed, and I did not know what to do but I am so glad this is back up and running as my feet feel like my own again.”
Anonymous “I am so pleased that there is a service like this that is inexpensive and takes great care of my feet. Being diabetic, foot care is important… it is the difference between me working and not. I am always on my feet at work, and when I leave here, it feels like a weight has been lifted. The recommendations I have been given have helped greatly.”
Nail care technician, Eme says: “It is a pleasure to be able to keep the older residents of Dudley on their feet and maintaining their independence. Having a basic nail care service in the area has been beneficial for those who are unable to take of their feet themselves and to keep people more mobile.”
Stepping Out provides a toe nail cutting and filing of hard skin to those who are:
· Aged 60 or above
· Registered with a Dudley GP
