Shell Corner Remembers are keen to find creative people to help them with this year’s Remembrance events and are seeking people who are handy with a crochet hook, or have some wool to donate in the colours they need.
The poppies are approx. 2-3 inches in size, but a variety of sizes would be good.
There are only red ones on the netting in the photo from last year, but the team would like to add the following for this year, to share around the area and add to the netting:
- Red poppies: specifically represent remembrance associated with the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces.
- White poppies: commemorate all victims of all wars – both military and civilians of all nationalities – and seek to bring to an end “the exclusion of civilians from mainstream Remembrance events”.
- Black poppies: represent the contributions made by black, African and Caribbean communities to various wars.
- Purple poppies: represent the contributions made by animals during wartime.
