Read Easy is a volunteer organisation that provides free and confidential one-to-one reading coaching for adults.

The stark reality is that 2.4m adults in the UK cannot read, while 2.5m struggle to read. On a practical level, this means that even carrying out everyday tasks can be challenging, if not impossible. Many of Ready Easy’s new readers have never been to the doctor as they’re too embarrassed to have to read and fill in forms. Being unable to read and write is often associated with depression, isolation and even higher mortality.

The impact of learning to read is tangible for both volunteers and new readers. The phrase heard from new readers time-and-time again is ‘life-changing’. But for Ready Easy’s volunteers too the process of helping adults learn to read can have a profound effect on their lives

Read Easy have exciting opportunities for volunteers to join the Dudley District group of Read Easy and they are currently looking for Coordinators to join their small, friendly team.

Becoming a Coordinator for Read Easy is fun and fulfilling but requires commitment and passion. You’ll be given lots of support, meet a diverse range of people, and be part of a genuinely life-changing organisation. As part of your role, you would enrol and assess new readers, match readers with coaches as well as visiting, supporting and monitoring reading pairs who will be using their Turning Pages reading scheme.

Whether you’ve got existing skills you’d like to put to good use, or are looking to develop new ones, being a Coordinator for Read Easy can be a great chance to learn something new.
