Community Cancer Champions – Cancer Awareness Training
This training will aim to improve early diagnosis of cancer, addressing some of the health inequalities. Talking helps breakdown fear and barriers. This training program is designed in conjunction with Cancer Research UK, and will give participants the knowledge and confidence to have conversations in their community about cancer prevention, myth busting and early diagnosis.
Course Information
The trainees will be required to attend all 3 sessions listed below (the sessions will be virtual via Teams)
Session 1 – “Talk Cancer” 14th September 2023; 09:30 -11:30
Session 2 – Why do we have Screening Programs? 12th October ; 2023 10.00-12.00
Session 3 – What happens next? 8th November 2023; 10.00-12.00

What is Talk Cancer?
Delivered by Cancer Research UK trainers with nursing and pharmacy backgrounds, the workshops equip and empower people to raise cancer awareness in the community by:
• Increasing your knowledge of key messages around cancer prevention, screening and early diagnosis
• Building your confidence to talk to the public about cancer
• Helping you to encourage people to make healthy changes, access local services and visit their GP promptly with any concerns
Who is it for?
Anyone who can promote health and wellbeing in their community.
Session 2 – Online 12th October; 2023 10.00-12.00
Session 3 – Online 8th November 2023; 10.00-12.00
On completion of a workshop, all trainees are provided with:
• A certificate of attendance and Cancer Champion badge to wear
• A Talk Cancer trainee booklet which contains useful information and resources
• An invitation to sign up to Talk Cancer’s CRUK’s quarterly newsletter and invitation to join a network of Community Cancer Champions
• Cancer Champion Bi-monthly forum
