A new free service has launched for people with hearing loss who have Sign Language as their preferred method of communication.
Emily Smith, Information, Advice and Guidance Officer with BSL Assist, is offering free and confidential information, advice and guidance. Sessions are at Stourbridge Library every Tuesday and Wednesday 12noon-4pm.
The service is for those with a hearing loss and are disadvantaged from accessing services due to their disability. Whether you cannot make a telephone call, need documents translating from BSL to English, require the services of an interpreter, or signposting to appropriate services, Emily can help.
As someone who is profoundly Deaf herself Emily is fully aware of the barriers to access and want to support the Deaf community in overcoming these daily challenges.
Emily would also like to know how service providers and businesses currently make their services accessible to those with a hearing loss. This could support and encourage organisations to become Deaf aware.
If you have any clients, organisations or services you feel may benefit from this service, or require any advice regarding making your organisation Deaf friendly please feel free to contact Emily via email (Emily@bsl-assist.co.uk), text or facetime on 07935 853 428.
