We utterly condemn the violent disorder that is taking place across the country. This unrest is deeply troubling, and we recognise the profound anxiety it is causing among people and communities, particularly those from marginalised communities within Dudley borough. The safety and well-being of our communities and residents remain at the forefront of our minds, and we are committed to supporting them through these challenging times.
The escalation of community tensions and concerns can lead to anti-social behaviour, poor behaviour in public spaces, hate crimes, harassment, serious violence, extremism and terrorism. It also frequently leads to a breakdown in relationships between people in communities and the Police, Dudley Council or other public bodies.
If you are aware of any tensions or concerns within your community, we urge you to report them immediately to Mark Wilson, Community Safety Officer for Dudley Council, who leads efforts on Hate, Cohesion, and Extremism. You can reach him directly via email at community.choesion@dudley.gov.uk. For more information on hate crimes, please visit the Safe and Sound Dudley’s Community Safety Partnership website: https://www.dudleysafeandsound.org/hatecrime
We also encourage our members from voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise organisations to stay informed through reputable and verifiable sources such as the West Midlands Police. In these times of heightened tension, misinformation is rampant across social media platforms. Therefore, we strongly advise against sharing content without ensuring it is from an official or verified source.
Dudley is a proud welcoming place for all, and we have all witnessed the best and worst of communities, over the last 10 or so days. Please join Community Safety from Dudley Council and Dudley CVS to learn more about what we have been doing, and what we would like to do going forward as valued members and organisations in our borough to shape and support the cohesion of our communities. The online session will be held on 14th Aug 12-1pm, if you would like to join us please contact us on 01384 573381 or info@dudleycvs.org.uk to receive joining instructions.
