Ren Shin Kan’s Story

For nearly 60 years, Ren Shin Kan has been a cornerstone of the martial arts and wellbeing community in Halesowen, serving families across Dudley and the wider United Kingdom. Founded in 1968, their dojo teaches traditional Aikido, Iaido and Qi-Gong, offering inclusive classes for all ages and abilities. They provide a safe, welcoming space where people build confidence, improve physical and mental wellbeing, and become part of something meaningful.

Why They Need Your Help

Ren Shin Kan currently rent their premises in Halesowen town centre, but without ownership, their long-term future is uncertain. Rising costs and the risk of relocation threaten not only the dojo, but also their contribution to the local high street.

Ren Shin Kan want to buy the building they operate from so they can secure a permanent home — protecting nearly six decades of heritage while continuing to invest in the town centre.

Owning the building would:

– Provide long-term stability for students and instructors

– Protect affordable training opportunities for local families

– Allow the expansion of youth programmes and wellbeing classes

– Safeguard an independent, community-led organisation on the high street

But this is about more than just their dojo.

Why This Matters to the Community of Halesowen

High streets across the country are facing real challenges. Independent businesses, community spaces and activity hubs are vital in keeping town centres alive.

Ren Shin Kan brings people into Halesowen several evenings a week and on weekends. Students and families visit local shops, cafés and businesses before and after training. They create footfall, visibility and energy in the town centre.

By helping Ren Shin Kan secure their building, you are helping to:

Keep an independent community venue available to all on the high street
Increase regular foot traffic to surrounding local businesses
Strengthen community connections in the town centre
Contribute to the commercial life of the town

A permanent dojo means a permanent presence — contributing to a vibrant, active high street rather than an empty unit.
