Our Children, Young People and Families team works alongside and supports people and organisations to enable Dudley Borough to be a place where children, young people and families can thrive and reach their potential.
The Dudley Family Hubs Peer Support Network supported families across the borough. With over 14,000 attendances and countless success stories, the Dudley Family Peer Support Network has made a lasting impact in our community.
Empowering Families
The Peer Support Network created a safe space for local people to build a caring community of support. Parents and caregivers came together, with the support of trained volunteers, to connect, share experiences, and build friendships. People said these connections helped them feel less isolated and more supported.
Improving Mental Health
Parents and caregivers have found comfort in sharing their struggles, processing emotions, and exploring solutions together. People said they felt happier and found it easier to manage stress.
“This group has been a lifeline for me and my mental health.”
Navigating Financial Challenges
Peer support groups have helped families deal with financial pressures by offering practical tips, budgeting workshops, and a space to talk about money. Parents have shared how this support helped them with financial struggles and improved their overall wellbeing.
Supporting individual goals
Returning to work after having a child can be challenging. The programme has empowered parents with training, coaching, and encouragement. Success stories like ‘Jane’, who secured stable employment, and ‘Mark’, who rediscovered his strengths through volunteering, highlight the life-changing impact of peer support.
The programme provided opportunities for parents to learn new skills, from parenting techniques to budgeting strategies. Volunteers also grew in confidence and developed their own skills.
Tailored Support for Single Parents and Dads
Single parents and dads have found unique support through the programme, helping them overcome feelings of loneliness and build confidence. Tailored peer support has provided these groups with the understanding and guidance they need to thrive.
“I feel like dads are the lost part when a family has a baby.”
A Growing Network of Support
The programme has reached thousands of families across Dudley. With funding of over £316,000, the programme has supported 20 local groups, delivering peer support at an average cost of just £13.90 per attendance.
The Dudley Family Hubs Peer Support Programme has transformed lives, creating a community where families feel supported, connected, and empowered. By investing in peer support, Dudley has laid the foundation for a thriving future.
