Open Stage is Dudley’s premier open access drama group made up of adults with learning disabilities, their families, carers, volunteers and friends from the local community. The group has met every Thursday evening during term time for the last 30 years at The Source, Youth Centre, Wordsley, DY8 5PY.
In September 2022 Open Stage were successful in receiving a £10,000.00 lottery grant to work on their new show ‘The Little Shop of Plastic Horrors’. They will be using art, dance drama and music to explore their own ideas on climate change and the curse of single use plastic waste, inspired by the famous musical ‘The Little Shop of Horrors’. The show will premier in the of autumn 2023.
Instead of Audrey the plant the performance will feature a monster made from plastic bottles, and an evil scientist trying to take over the world! The piece has been created by the group with choreographer Anna Lavander and local artist Sean Counley.
Open Stage provide weekly creative arts and drama based activities, as well as a social gathering point for all those involved, and are keen to welcome new members, and volunteers who would like to come along and join in the fun acting, dancing, singing and art making. The group are open to all residents of Dudley and the surrounding area with a learning disability, aged over 18.
